Intended to support tourism suppliers mainstream sustainable practices, this project analyzed different successful sustainable tourism initiatives with the aim to identify specific elements  that have visibly ‘catalyzed’ the shift towards more sustainable consumption and production patterns in tourism in Germany. While through the project, the diverse efforts made by all types of stakeholders along the tourism supply chain in mainstreaming sustainable tourism development could be highlighted, the research specifically identified 13 elements of catalytic importance. The efforts and the specific characteristics of each of the 13 ‘catalysts’ are summarized in an accompanying report that has been prepared to facilitate their replication and integration into current and future initiatives, such as the 10YFP STP and beyond.
