9 August 2018 Belarus strengthens contribution to global goal of safe and seamless travel
Madrid, Spain, 9 August 2018 – The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) welcomes Belarus’ decision to implement a 30-day visa-free policy to citizens of 74 states travelling through Minsk airport. The decision is the latest of several national policy changes aimed at safer and more seamless travel, for which UNWTO strongly advocates.

Madrid, Spain, 19 July 2018 – From infrastructure and communication to food production and transport, tourism and construction play key roles in a circular economy framework that supports sustainable development. In its role as lead organization of the One Planet Sustainable Tourism Programme, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), together with the Sustainable Buildings and Construction Programme of the One Planet Network, addressed this challenge during the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (9-18 July, New York, USA).

5 March 2018 UNWTO/Chimelong Initiative on Wildlife and Tourism launches Media Award
Madrid, Spain, 3 March 2018 - “To engage the media and to recognize the work of journalists in the coverage of wildlife and sustainable tourism.” This is the ultimate goal of the Media Award announced by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on the occassion of Wildlife Day celebrated on 3 March. The UNWTO/Chimelong Initiative aims to promote the value of tourism for wildlife conservation and includes also training to tourism administrations and to media on the theme.
24 January 2018 Innovation and training on the agenda of UNWTO Secretary-General visit to Portugal
Innovation and training were at the centre of the official visit of Zurab Pololikashvili, the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), to Portugal on 22-23 January. Following meetings with the Portuguese President, Prime Minister, Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from the private sector, a joint training and innovation action plan was agreed between UNWTO and Portugal. On the occasion, the Alentejo Sustainable Tourism Observatory joined the UNWTO International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO). 
19 December 2017 A roadmap towards 2030: the legacy of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017
Participants from around the world joined the Official Closing ceremony of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017 at the Palace of Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland. The event reviewed the year´s main achievements and discussed the roadmap for advancing the contribution of tourism towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
18 December 2017 Botswana hosts the International Symposium and Annual Conference of the 10YFP Sustainable Tourism Programme (STP)
Kasane, capital of Chobe District in Botswana, hosted tourism stakeholders to exchange experiences and knowledge of innovative approaches to enhance tourism and conservation planning, financing and marketing. Under the theme “Empowering Tourism Destinations’ Sustainability through Innovation”, the 10YFP STP International Symposium and Annual Conference also discussed the role of the tourism sector in fighting climate change.
15 December 2017 UNWTO International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories annual meeting discusses how to measure tourism impacts at local level
UNWTO convened observatories from around the world to discuss advances in effectively monitoring sustainability in tourism at destination level. The 2017 Global International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO) Meeting was held on the 13th  and 14th of December at UNWTO Headquarters in Madrid.
