International Conference on Sustainable Tourism Management at Heritage Sites – Enhancing Inter-Agency and Stakeholder Coordination for Joint Actions

This Conference was jointly organized by UNWTO and UNESCO in the framework of a strategic collaboration in order to support the implementation of policies aiming at enhancing sustainability at World Heritage Sites that represent emblematic and highly visited tourist destinations. A wide range of case study presentations from the Asia- Pacific region and field visits to World Heritage Sites Mountain Huangshan National Park and Ancient Villages of Xidi and Hongcun facilitated the exchange of experiences through this event. The discussions focused on key management aspects, such as enhancing local community benefits, using interpretation to provide a high quality visitor experience, reducing tourism congestion and mitigating the environmental impacts of tourism.
