The Annual Report to ECOSOC 2018 was released in May 2018 and it is based on the programme’s Progress Report 2017. To discover some of the activity highlights, please visit here

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAMME’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SDG 12

In line with SDG targets 12.1 and 12.b which link sustainable consumption and production (SCP) with national policies, programme members have conducted research on the integration of SCP into tourism policies involving 100 countries.

The cross cutting nature of SCP is well reflected by the connection between SDG 12.2. on the efficient use of natural resources and SDGs 6, 7 and 13 focusing on the efficient use of water and energy and climate change respectively – areas where members are taking action.

In connection to SDG target 12.3., members are working in the development of manuals, trainings, campaigns and projects to minimize food waste in the sector.

Members are also making efforts to diminish waste through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse in line with SDG target 12.5.

Some members represent large companies that are leading by example in sustainability reporting according to SDG target 12.6.

Several activities of members are also connected to SDG target 12.8. as they play an important role in raising the awareness of the ongoing sustainability efforts of a destination or business and enabling consumers to make informed choices.
