Resolution A/RES/73/245 on "Promotion of sustainable tourism..." adopted by the UN General Assembly

Promotion of Sustainable Tourism, Including Ecotourism, for Poverty Eradication and Environment Protection

The plenary of the UN General Assembly adopted, on 20 December 2018, by consensus and acting on the recommendation by its Second Committee, the resolution, entitled, "Promotion of sustainable tourism, including ecotourism, for poverty eradication and environment protection”. The resolution was sponsored by a total of 94 delegations. 

The resolution (available in Arabic, ChineseEnglish, French, Russian and Spanish), which is based on the report on "Promotion of sustainable tourism, including ecotourism, for poverty eradication and environment protection" prepared by the UNWTO Secretariat, includes recommendations on ways and means to promote sustainable tourism, including ecotourism, as a tool for fighting poverty and promoting sustainable development in its three dimensions - economic, social and environmental - in a balanced and integrated manner. The resolution also features advances made that are based, among others, on a survey conducted in 2018 among all UN Member States and contains a set of recommendations to promote and enhance sustainable tourism worldwide.
